About

David Auner, aac, is a Los Angeles based cinematographer and photographer. He was born and raised in Graz, Austria. His grandfather, a retired photographer, started teaching him the “Art of Seeing” and film photography at a young age. His uncle continued his training and David assisted on various photographic projects, focusing on architecture, catalog and art reproduction photography. This training started in the film days using 35 mm, medium format and large format film and continued into the digital age. Over the years David worked extensively in art reproduction, architecture and business event photography as well as people, landscape, fashion and panoramic photography.

While longform narrative and documentary motion picture work are David’s main focus the related field of photography comes in as a close second. As a digital photography expert with many years of experience he applies these skills to commissions and commercial work. When taking out a camera for pleasure or when travelling he reaches for medium and large format film cameras. Having the highest demand for optical quality and usability, his tool kit contains Linhof, Hasselblad, Rollei and Nikon cameras. The Kodak, Fuji and Ilford films exposed are developed and scanned in house for complete control of the workflow.

He holds an MFA in Cinematography from the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles and a BA in Digital Film Arts, Middlesex University, London. David has been a proud member of the Austrian Association of Cinematographers (aac) since 2015.
